About Us

How this started, who we are, and why every lesson is built for someone who has never danced.

My story

I've always been obsessed with weddings

Beth from First Dance by Zienna

Hi, I'm Beth, the creator of First Dance by Zienna.

When I lived in New York and taught in a dance studio, I watched bride after bride miss out on the First Dance she had dreamed of. Sometimes the lessons were simply out of budget. More often, her fiancé just didn't want to learn it in a room full of mirrors and strangers.

I knew there had to be another way.

So Ryan and I built First Dance by Zienna, so that complete beginners — couples who have never danced a day in their lives — could learn a beautiful, natural-looking First Dance together, at home.

That goal has never changed. To make your dream First Dance feel possible, without the pressure, the nerves, or the studio price tag.

We are both competitive ballroom and Latin dancers, with more than 20 years of dance experience between us. Together, we have taught over 1,000 couples their First Dance, with almost all of them learning from home.

In every lesson, you'll learn from both of us. We show you the full dance together first. Then Ryan teaches the groom's steps, and Beth teaches the bride's steps, so you can easily follow along and learn your own part.

And if you send us a practice video, we personally watch it and give you feedback to help you feel confident for your First Dance.

Why we teach it this way

Built for complete beginners

Every lesson is made for couples who have never danced before. We break down every move step by step, so nothing feels rushed or confusing.

See every move clearly

We show the steps from different angles, so you can easily see where your feet and body should go.

Learn at your own pace

Pause, rewind and replay any part as many times as you need. There's no pressure to keep up. Take your time until each move feels comfortable.

Learn from your living room

No dance studio. No mirrors. No strangers watching. Learn together from your living room, whenever it works for you.

I want you to feel relief and trust straight away, like you've found the answer to something you've been stressing about. And then I want you to feel excited about your First Dance, like it's one less thing to worry about.
